Have you heard of Toastmasters International?
Been wanting to join a Toastmasters Club in Lagos?
Problem Solved!

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations.
Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters International offers a program of communication and leadership projects designed to help people learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking.
Headquartered in USA, the organization has more than 280,000 memberships in 13,500 clubs in 116 countries.
Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people of all backgrounds become more confident in front of an audience.

Well like they say - One million births is a statistics, one birth is RSVP (Rice + Stew + Very + Plenty). What impact has joining Toastmasters International had on me?
I used to be a very shy person, and extremely shy amidst people all suited up and way older than me, and worse when they all work in those companies/organizations I only dream of. Now, levels don change. I'm still shy, but not in front or in the midst of professionals even if they are thrice my age and own fortune 100 companies. On the contrary, I'm most bold before such people. I simple dazzle them. Don't just take my words for it. Know any business meetup? Invite me and watch me leave jaws hanging (I hope my mentor is reading this).

I didn't have a Blackberry or these many female friends before joining; now I have a Blackberry and these many female friends (don't ask me how many). And for people who knew me, this is definitely a brand new Michael.

My social life used to be entirely in the cloud (a true pioneer of cloud-based solutions to life issues). Now, I'm out nearly every Saturday and Sunday. You might say: what relevance has that with joining Lighthouse Toastmasters? Ordinarily, none. But in my case, all! Meeting regularly with forward thinking people and business professionals, and in a semi-formal relationship building environment will change anyone's life for good. The changes will even look unrelated to other people.

Best part is I now have people I'll ordinarily need an uncle to connect me with as my mentors. I have been taking up leadership roles that make my head swell. Roles that build me up, change my reasoning and forcefully move me forward. I have become a very good communicator, an excellent conversationalist and a competent leader. My organizational skills (nearly non-existent before) are becoming enviable.

I could go on and on...
But I won't just want you to take my word for it. Come as a guest to one of our meetings and see for yourself.

Lighthouse Toastmasters, Victoria Island. We meet first and third Saturdays of the month. Mail Us at info@lighthousetoastmasters.org to join or visit. For VIP treatment as my blog reader, mail me michael@olafusimichael.com and I will go as far as to arrange a red cab to pick you (offer has expired).

  1. I first came across your blog when I was searching for access codes for an Airtel data plan...and again when I was trying to find the best mobile provider for my Android...and now when trying to get just a peek at how Toastmasters operates in Lagos....something more than a meeting date and time.

You're blog is special. Thanks for this post. Maybe see you at a meeting one day!

  6. This is exactly what I am looking for, but payment of subscription is my concern, the international dues most especially, is it paid immediately after the first three sessions?

    1. Hi Theresa,

You can try out the club first as a guest, non-paying guest. Then when you feel you are ready, then register and begin the amazing Toastmasters journey.

      Cheers!
