This is going to be a lifesaver for a lot of people.
In this MVP post, I will show you how to copy any tabulated data from PDF documents to Excel and still retain the tabular form. And this works for scanned documents, ones you can't even copy the text in the PDF.

So let's start!

Below is a screenshot of an equivalent of a scanned document containing a company's financial data.

As you can see below, it's not even possible to copy the texts in the PDF document. If I try to select anything, it simply highlights a rectangular portion of the doc.
So how do I copy the table?
Easy, just follow these steps.

Do you work with lots of data, track KPIs, make sales projections, make Excel based reports, do business data Analysis and make data-centric PowerPoint presentations?

There have been times I needed to transpose a table and through experience I have discovered two ways - the easy way, using copy paste special transpose, and the sure way, using formula.

In this post I will show you both ways.

As usual, I have generated a sample data. Shown below.

Now let's transpose this table.
Hi there!
This is a very special how-to, you don't get to see this just anywhere. In fact, lots of people aren't aware that this feature exists in Excel. Yet it can make your spreadsheet life a lot easier.

Just imagine you have a sales report to work on, having the sales persons in column A, the months in row 1 and the sales figure in the other cells. And then you discover that the months are not arranged in the proper order, February is not beside March and July is right next to January. How do you fix that? Your regular sort won't do it. You need something less used, a secret Excel tool called custom sort.

Here is a sample data to better illustrate.

The data above is an Excel Table. And needs to be converted first to regular cell entries. But lets play ignorant and see what will happen.

Hello there!
Welcome to my 12th post in the MVP series, and today I'm going to show you how to highlight duplicate entries in a Microsoft Excel table and delete the duplicates (leaving only unique entries).

So, let's start.

I have put together a sample table for this demonstration.

You will notice that several companies are repeated.
How about I show you how to highlight all the companies occurring more than once in the list? Here's how.
What's the use of a postpaid line if you still have to go queue at an Airtel customer service center just so you can pay your bill? Well, you can guess the answer.
For the first 3 months of using my Airtel postpaid line, I was the biggest mumu in Lagos. I would take a bike in expensive VI to go queue at an Airtel customer service center to pay my Airtel postpaid bill. And on those days, I always end up spending the entire afternoon there. I won't forget one particular day, I got there and the crowd was just too much. I didn't want to waste the money I paid the bike man, so I waited and waited. It became very ridiculous, it was obvious that it would be at close of work before it would get to my turn. I left. And came back.

Now I don wise up like Saka, I now pay online with super ease. No traveling to customer centre, no queuing and no ruined day.

And in this post I will show how I do that.
I remember the first DSTV re-subscription payment I made. The first subscription had come with the initial installation and set-up. It would be 30 days the next day and my subscription was going to expire. Immediately it was 12noon, I rushed my lunch and took a motorbike from Adeola Odeku to Tiamiyu Salvage just to pay my DSTV subscription. And when I saw the crowd outside, and the one inside too, I told myself, "This is it, I had better call Sam and tell him to shutdown my PC when he's leaving. This must be my next stop to home".
Now I pay my DSTV subscription online in 4mins via Quickteller.
And in this post, I will show you with elaborate steps and screenshots how to do it too.

These are all you'll need -

  • Your DSTV smartcard number
  • The Owner's name (one used to purchase the DSTV)
  • And an internet connection on a PC. Don't attempt to use your Blackberry.
Let's begin.

Hi there!
I've got some good news to share. I recently got several English Grammar books, I'm working on brightening my grammar. I'm finally biting the bullet and admitting that my grammar needs fixing.

For about 2 years now, I always cringe at the thought of reading my previous posts especially the ones I wrote at the start of my blogging pseudo-career. The grammatical blunders I come across in them are mood wrecking and make me want to quit blogging altogether. Then I console myself by reading other Nigerian blogs, rather than take time out to weed out the grammatical errors in all my previous posts.
But something happened over this past weekend, I went for Lighthouse Toastmasters club meeting and met this amazing child, she is probably 8 years old but her English is too good. Not that she used big words or couldn't stop talking, she used simple words beautifully well and with a grammatical perfection I could only dream of. Her speech sounded like music to me, and when she spoke I gave her rapt attention and wished she would just go on and not stop. I kept thinking about how an 8 year old girl could acquire such fluency in English, must be the school. And since it's too late for me to go back to Primary school, I'll have to teach my self with the same dedication I used to acquire all my IT certifications and programming skills. So I went on Amazon kindle store and bought some free books. I saw the amazing reviews on the Grammar Girl's series and bought the audiobook version on Audible.com

So now I'm brightening my grammar and soon you'll begin to notice the improvements I'm making in my subsequent posts.
Do you have any extra tip on how to brighten my grammar? Please share via the comment-box below.
I'm sharing with you the presentation by the founder of LinkedIn, the world's biggest in its niche. This is the most inspiring presentation I have ever come across.

Hello there!
In this Excel MVP post I will show you the cool use of conditional formatting to show instant data insight.

So let's use a fictitious data.
Company XYZ sells 4 products and have independent sales people working across the country. The company gives sales target to them and for the last evaluation period, a target of 700 sales per product was given.
Below is the table of the sales achieved by the sales team, by person and by product.

So, how do you highlight the sales that met the target?
That's what conditional formatting does, and with easy and beauty.

Hi.
In this post I'll share with you the list (+ screenshots) of the websites I visit nearly daily.

1. Blogger

Yeah, blogger, my blog's platform. I go there daily to view my yesterday's page views, make new posts and edit my blog layout.
I recently created a new website, a forum hosted by siteground.com It cost me over 4 times the cost of running this blog (on Blogger) and since I use a bandwidth sharing option, the website often becomes unreachable when traffic surges. Now I know the value of running a blog on Blogger, availability is almost 100% for a cheap fee of $10 yearly.
